What is a VPS?
A VPS is a virtual private server, which is a slice of a dedicated server. It gives you total software flexibility so you can add bespoke components and provides an ideal upgrade path for businesses managing multiple accounts, brands, domains and/or databases.
How much does the cheapest VPS cost?
The cheapest package is VPS Xpress at £24.99 + VAT with a £19.99 set-up fee.
Do I need technical expertise to manage a Virtual Private Server?
It helps if you have some IT knowledge but if you don't we'd start you off on a Managed VPS solution for a few months, so that we can train you and/or shadow your activities. We would help you with the configuration and set up and show you how to run the server through an easy-to-use graphical interface called Plesk. You don't need to have much technical know-how to run a VPS.
Do your VPS packages support IMAP?
Yes, our packages support both IMAP, POP and SMTP.
Does the web space allocation also cover email?
Yes, they are both under the same disk space allocation.
Can I use cPanel on my VPS?
No, we do not support cPanel on any VPS at GlobalGold.
What OS is on a VPS?
We use CentOS 5 for Linux and Server 2003 Standard for Windows.
What is the cost of migrating to your VPS solution?
There is no charge, GlobalGold automatically assists with migrations.
How easy is it to upgrade within the VPS range?
Very easy. There is no IP change and no configuration change required either. It takes about 5 minutes and requires a reboot.
I need cron (presumably I can set via Plesk)
Yes, this is set up and managed through plesk.
Are there mail quotas?
There are no predefined mail quotas set by us, you are able to set this in plesk if you would like, the overall quota is defined by your servers disk space limit.
Any fees to transfer IPSTAG or DNS in/out?
No, there are no charges from GlobalGold for these changes.
Could I upgrade memory on the VPS if needed?
Yes, the VPS is fully upgradeable, just contact us at support@globalgold.co.uk for the upgrade options.
No limit on MySQL databases?
MySQL databases are not limited, the overall quota is defined by your servers disk space limit.
Would each domain require its own ftp, or could I manage many from one ftp log in?
Yes, each domain has its own FTP login. There is no central FTP to manage them all.
