K D SouzaIf you want to keep your domain name you need to renew it and you have to do it in time.
You will receive an automated renewal notification from Global Gold if you have bought your domain through us. If you have already received such a notification all you need to do is click the link and advise us as to whether you wish to keep the domain or allow it to lapse.
Renew Your Domain In Time
All domains have an expiry date, which means that at the end of the term the domain has to be renewed in order for you or your company to continue using it.
If you fail to renew in time, you may find that the process of trying to get your domain back a difficult and costly one, so the best thing to do is to action your reminders from Global Gold as soon as possible. Reminders to renew will be provided at regular intervals prior to the expiry date of the domain.
The Global Gold Reminder Process
Global Gold will advise you by email up to 3 months in advance of the renewal date.
We’ll ensure that you are advised that you need to take action 90 days prior to renewal, 28 days prior to renewal, 7 days before it is due to expire and finally 48 hours prior to it being lost. It is critical that you therefore keep all of your contact details up to date, particularly of any changes in your regularly used email address.
If you allow your domain to slip into the redemption processes of the main registries, not only might you lose the domain, but you may also end up paying significantly more than the original value of the domain trying to get it back!
PLEASE ensure you act upon our renewal reminders as they are there to help you protect your business, your brand values and/or the goodwill associated with your company!
The ultimate responsibility however rests with you deciding what you want to do with your domain, doing so in good time and ensuring the email contact details we have for you are correct. Always check the relevant WHOIS database to confirm ownership, even if you have received an automated registration/renewal confirmation. The WHOIS records are the only accurate source reflecting ownership and control of a domain. Always double-check details or contact us to check them for you.
Redemption Process for Domains Names at Melbourne IT
1) On expiry of the current licence period your domain name will be placed on Hold. This means that your domain name is still registered but your web site and email will cease functioning.
2) At this point you will receive an Expiry Notice email directly from Melbourne IT.
Your domain name will continue to be registered for a further 40 days from the expiry date.
On the 40th day after expiry, you will receive a Domain Name Cancellation email.
At this point the Registry places your domain name in ’Redemption’ state for another 30 days in which time you may contact Melbourne IT to restore the domain name to an "Active" status. If you make payment during this period of £150, your domain name licence will be re-activated. However, there will be a propagation period of up to 48 hours before the domain name is live on the Internet again.
If your domain name is not restored within this Registry-imposed 30-day period, it is subsequently made available to other parties after a further 5 days.
NB. Always check the relevant WHOIS database to confirm ownership, even if you have received an automated registration/renewal confirmation. The WHOIS records are the only accurate source reflecting ownership and control of a domain. Always double-check details or contact us to check them for you on 0845 313 0909.
